All election reform bills presented to the 2006 Legislature during its
regular session died without reaching the House or Senate floors. In 2007 Governor Charlie Crist signed into law a bill requiring paper ballots in all jurisdictions for elections held in 2008 and beyond. Touch screen direct recording electronic voting machines (DREs), used to improve accessible ballots for people with certain disabilities, will be available until 2012, at which time accessible paper ballots must be available for people with disabilities. Work continues toward true reform throughout the year.
