and some local election officials to prevent citizen observation
of their elections.

In this 5-minute video clip, Susan Pynchon, Executive
Director of FFEC, challenges the lack of transparency during the
2006 Sarasota County recount, an election where the votes of 18,412
voters were never counted in the U.S. Congressional District 13
race—a race in which Republican Vern Buchanan defeated Democrat
Christine Jennings by 369 votes. Sarasota County Supervisor of Elections
Kathy Dent attempts to restrict citizen observation at the recount
until Ms. Pynchon objects to the opaque procedures.

Democracy, the Emmy-nominated documentary aired on
HBO, about the ease of hacking an election, featuring Bev Harris
of Black Box Voting; Susan Pynchon, Executive Director of FFEC;
Ion Sancho, Supervisor of Elections in Leon County, FL; the Volusia
County, FL elections staff; and citizen activists around the country.
FFEC has provided each Volusia County library
with a copy of Hacking Democracy. It is also available through NetFlix.
